Why "chkdsk /r" won't always start after system restarts?
When I do a "chkdsk c: /r", the system would ask to schedule the volume to be checked the next time the system restarts. After confirmation, the system restarts but won't do the "chkdsk c: /r". Why?

Hi,
Please install the following hotfix to check if you can run this process during startup:

I have downloaded the hotfixes for both x32 and x64 systems because I have both.
After I extracted from the downloaded zipped file and then ran the Microsoft Update Standalone Package I get the following error.
The update is not applicable to your computer.

Hi, you seem to be talking about different problem. I am unable to install the hotfix.
Anyway, I have done the following.
C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
I have also checked the registry accordingly. The value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager has already got "autocheck autochk *" so I don't quite follow what I need to change. Anyway, I have changed "autocheck
autochk *" to "autocheck autochk C:" and tried but it didn't make any difference. I restarted the computer and saw nothing happen. I have since restored the registry value.
